An important goal of the INI is to support new and existing high impact neuroscience research at the University of Iowa. Toward this, we will issue a call for applications for INI Accelerator Grants, which will focus specifically on pilot projects that will lead to the submission of and R01 or equivalent grant application.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- May involve any basic, translational, or clinical neuroscience research
- Applications can be from any college.
- The PI must either be a member of the INI or be someone qualified to join the INI as a member.
APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE:
- A cover page that includes: Project title; PI’s contact information and public lay abstract highlighting the goal and importance of the project.
- A one-page description of the project including: significance, scientific goals.
- A half-page description of how this proposed work will lead to an external grant application.
- A half-page description of the budget with justification. Direct costs for research (e.g., research personnel, core usage, animal care, etc.) are allowed. Travel, tuition and faculty salary are not allowable expenses.
- PI’s NIH biosketch including current funding.
- Additional materials may be required after submission for review.
EVALUATION
INI Accelerator Grants will be evaluated on
- Scientific impact and approach
- Potential for future funding
AWARDS
- Awards will be up to $50,000 for a maximum of one year.
- Awardees must report final progress to the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and acknowledge the INI in all publications resulting from funded Accelerator Grants.
