Neurological, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric disorders impose significant physical, emotional, and financial burdens on affected individuals and families, along with substantial costs to society.

The Iowa Neuroscience Institute's ultimate goal is to unravel the complexities of the brain and nervous system, improving our understanding of related illnesses and advancing novel therapeutic approaches. While some of our faculty engage in clinical responsibilities, the Institute itself does not provide patient care. However, we work closely with clinical departments—such as neurology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, anesthesia, radiology, and psychiatry—that deliver world-class clinical care at the University of Iowa.

Our collaborative efforts bridge basic neuroscience discoveries with clinical applications, enabling the development and testing of cutting-edge therapies for brain and neurological diseases. This connection between science and medicine strengthens the University of Iowa's standing as a destination for individuals with disorders such as epilepsy, pain, hearing loss, stroke, traumatic brain injury, mood and anxiety disorders, and autism.
